2008 Green Education Award Winner Announced
La Crosse, WI – Hybrid Guru Chris Schneider announced the Green Education Award winner during the Earth Day Celebration at Honda Motorwërks. College campuses competed for the Green Education Award during the Early Earth Day Odyssey; a two week tour during which the Hybrid Guru visited college campuses throughout Wisconsin and Iowa to spread the word about energy efficient and environmentally friendly transportation. The winner of the Green Education Award is Hawkeye Community College, located in Waterloo, Iowa. Hawkeye Community College was chosen as the award winner based on their high level of support for the Early Earth Day Odyssey, which included encouraging students and campus officials, city officials, and community members to attend, as well as providing support during the event. Says Hybrid Guru Chris Schneider, “Your efforts before, during and after the event suggest that “green” activities are flourishing in Waterloo – congratulations!”
The Green Education Award consists of a 6 month, 1 dollar per month lease of a Compressed Natural Gas Honda Civic GX, along with a free PHILL home refueling station.
In addition, the Hybrid Guru awarded UW-Stout with a 3 week complimentary trial of a Columbia ParCar Mega, a neighborhood electric vehicle, for their “award winning effort.”
The Hybrid Guru plans to conduct a similar Early Earth Day Odyssey in 2009.
